Less food waste in supermarkets – but what about us?

Up to 30 percent less waste in supermarkets! 🎉

"Thanks to the agreements between the Ministry of Food and large retail chains, supermarkets have reduced their food waste by an average of 24 percent – some have even already reached the target for 2025. Sounds like good news, right? 🙌"

Unfortunately, there is a "but" here.

What's the catch?

Supermarkets produce about 0.8 million tons of waste annually – a significant number, but relatively small compared to the 6.3 million tons that come from private households. On average, each of us throws away 76 kilograms of food per year. 😱

That means: The true responsibility lies with us.

What can we do?

"A first step is to consciously notice how much food we throw away. 🌱 Start a self-experiment:"

  • How much waste do you produce in a week?
  • What ends up in your trash and why? 🧐

"No one wants to continue food waste – but how exactly can we as individuals take action? 🪴"

Sustainable alternatives for everyday life 💚

  1. Reusable Products:

    • Baking paper: For example, replace disposable baking paper with reusable alternatives.
    • Soap: Use solid soaps instead of liquid soaps in plastic bottles.
  2. Packaging-free alternatives:
    • Shopping bags: Avoid plastic bags by using reusable fabric bags.
    • Glass containers: Use glass instead of plastic containers for storage.
  3. Indoor-Gardening: 🌱
    • Grow your own herbs, salads, and vegetables.
    • Avoid packaging and long transport routes.
    • "Harvest only what you need – fresh and without waste."
